How to Reach Mt Giluwe Hideaway Lodge

The journey to the Southern Highlands is part of the adventure. Here's everything you need to know to find us.

Mendi Airport (MDU)

The closest airport to the lodge. Fly from Port Moresby to Mendi, then approx. 130 minutes by road. Lodge transfers arranged on request.

Mt Hagen Airport (HGU)

The major highland hub with more frequent connections. Approx. 4 hours by road via the Highlands Highway. Lodge transfers available.

By Road

Accessible via the Highlands Highway from both Mendi and Mt Hagen. 4WD recommended during wet season (November – April).

How do I make a reservation?+
You can book by filling in our online booking form on the Bookings page, or by emailing us directly at bookings@mtgiluwehideaway.com. We confirm all reservations within 24 hours.
What are your check-in and check-out times?+
Check-in is from 2:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out can be arranged subject to room availability — please contact us in advance.
What is your cancellation policy?+
Cancellations made 7 or more days before arrival receive a full refund. Cancellations within 7 days of arrival incur a 50% charge of the first night. No-shows are charged the full first night's rate.
How do I get to the lodge from Port Moresby?+
Fly from Port Moresby to either Mendi Airport (closest — 130 min by road) or Mt Hagen Airport (4 hrs by road). We can arrange transfers from both airports — just let us know your flight details at the time of booking.
Is breakfast included with my room?+
Breakfast is included in the Canopy Loft (K380/night), Summit Quarters (K450/night), and The Giluwe Sanctuary (K500/night — all meals included). Breakfast is available for the Mossy Creek Room at K25 per person.
Do you offer guided treks and activities?+
Yes — we offer guided nature walks, birdwatching tours, the Mt Giluwe summit trek, village cultural visits, traditional mumu experiences, and more. Please contact us to arrange activities when booking your stay.
Can you host conferences and events?+
Yes. Our conference room accommodates up to 30 delegates and is fully equipped with AV, projector, screen, and high-speed WiFi. Conference room hire starts from K300/day. Full catering and accommodation packages available for groups.
What payment methods do you accept?+
We accept cash in Papua New Guinea Kina (PGK) and direct bank transfer. Full payment or a deposit is required to confirm a reservation — details are provided upon booking confirmation.
